2024 Toyota Crown: Luxury, Power, and Style Combined

The 2024 Toyota Crown follows a unique formula, offering both traditional sedan and high-riding crossover variants. While the U.S. market exclusively gets the elevated version, its distinctive design may not appeal to everyone.

The 2024 Toyota Crown is set to go on sale in Japan in December, with prices anticipated to start at approximately $42,000 and reach up to $54,000. Regardless of trim level, the Crown prioritizes a more luxurious driving experience compared to other Toyota four-door offerings.

Customers can explore and purchase these vehicles from newly established dedicated Crown showrooms located in Tsuzuki, Yokohama (Weins Toyota Kanagawa), and Tenjin, Fukuoka (Fukuoka Toyota), with three more showrooms planned for Aichi (Aichi Toyota), Chiba (Chiba Toyota), and Tokyo (Toyota Mobility Tokyo).

However, beneath its unconventional styling lies a vehicle that offers a level of luxury akin to Lexus, along with a choice of two proven hybrid powertrains. Most Crown models feature a 236-hp hybrid setup that achieved an impressive 42 mpg in the tests. For those seeking maximum performance, the Platinum trim offers a 340-hp turbocharged hybrid powertrain, sprinting to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds during test track evaluation.

Regarded as one of Toyota’s most prestigious offerings, the Crown is currently available as both a high-riding sedan and a crossover, with additional models, including a larger SUV and a conventional sedan, set to debut in Japan in the coming months.

For 2024, Toyota has made improvements to the Crown’s interior materials, enhancing fit and finish. The mid-range Limited trim now offers the Advance Technology package, featuring adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-change assist, and a front cross-traffic alert system. These features come standard on the top-of-the-line Platinum trim.

Notably, alongside the recent release of the Crown Sport (the crossover) in Japan, Toyota is preparing a limited-edition variant exclusively for the Japanese domestic market (JDM). Based on the locally available RS Advanced trim, this special edition boasts a unique matte paint finish and other unspecified exclusive features.

Toyota appears to be transforming the Crown into a sub-brand, distinguishing the four-model lineup from its regular Toyota counterparts. While these four vehicles will be available at select dealerships, the even more luxurious Century sedan and the newly introduced SUV will only be offered through Century Meisters at specific showrooms.

These dedicated Crown dealerships will showcase all four initial models and offer test drives to prospective customers. To enhance the overall experience, Toyota plans to create upscale lounge areas and organize networking events for Crown owners, while the showroom design will reflect the brand’s unique identity.

Following the launch of this initial special edition, additional limited-run variants with added enhancements are expected for other Crown models.

In terms of interior features, the Crown’s cabin offers a premium experience. Drivers transitioning from their Avalon sedans will enjoy an upgrade, particularly if they opt for the Limited or Platinum models.

The elevated driving position, similar to a compact SUV’s, positions the Crown as an attractive alternative to traditional full-size sedans. Standard amenities across all models include eight-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, dual-zone automatic climate control, and ambient interior lighting.
