Special Judge (ND and PS), Senapati on Thursday remanded a head constable and two others in a 15- day of judicial custody till June 2, in connection with the Rs 31 crore drug haul case of Kangpokpi district.
Sonlensei Haokip, 23, son of Thanglun Haokip of G Khonom Village, Sangaikot, Churachandpur district; Jamgoulen Haokip, 21, son of Letthang Haokip of Kingkin village, Churachandpur district and Lunminthang Haokip alias Mimin Taqchapa, 33, son of (L) Holkholet Haokip of Kholmun Village, Churachandpur district were produced before the court with a prayer for 15-day judicial custody for further investigation into the case.
The police had arrested the trio, including one head constable of Manipur Police department on May 11, during frisking and checking of vehicles along National Highways in Kangpokpi district. The police team stopped one unregistered Honda City Car (Maroon colour) driven by Solensei Haokip with one occupant Jamgoulen Haokip.
The special public prosecutor submitted that the accused persons are directly or indirectly involved in committing the crime in connection with the case. Moreover, the case is also heinous in nature which is punishable under the ND and PS act and is at the initial stage of investigation and there is a high chance of hampering and tampering with the investigation.
Special public prosecutor also submitted that more evidence is yet to be collected against the accused to prove the charges leveled against them. It was also submitted that the section clearly attracts section 37 of the NDPS act and prayed for remanding the accused persons in judicial custody.
It may be mentioned that the security forces confiscated 212 soap cases suspected to contain Heroin No 4 and found concealed in a box during the frisking. In the local market, the whole soap cases weighing 2.13 kg were valued at Rs 63,60,000; however, in the international market, they were worth Rs 31,80,00,000.
