Authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are investigating the incident as an apparent double homicide, with the Robbery-Homicide Division leading the probe. The grim discovery was made after the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call at approximately 3:30–3:40 p.m. at the couple’s residence on the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue.

Paramedics found the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a woman in her late 60s (reports vary slightly on Michele’s age, between 68 and 70), both suffering from multiple stab wounds. There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the perpetrator may have been known to the victims.

Law enforcement sources have indicated that a family member was interviewed in connection with the deaths, and reports from multiple outlets, including People, The Independent, ABC News, and The New York Times, state that the couple’s 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, has been taken into custody.

He was booked late Sunday night and is being held on $4 million bail, though formal charges have not yet been announced by the LAPD. Some sources describe Nick as having a history of personal struggles.
