Hungarian Government Announces 200 Fully Funded Scholarships for Indian Students

The Hungarian Government has opened applications for 200 fully funded scholarships exclusively for Indian students, allowing them to pursue higher education in Hungary starting in the 2026/2027 academic year. Interested candidates have until January 15, 2026, to submit their online applications through the Tempus Public Foundation’s portal.

This initiative, part of the renowned Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme, aims to strengthen educational ties between India and Hungary while providing Indian students access to high-quality European education.

The scholarships cover a range of study levels and are offered under the bilateral Educational Exchange Programme agreement between Hungary’s Ministry of Human Capacities and India’s Ministry of Education.

The breakdown of the 200 scholarships is as follows:

  • 50 for undergraduate (bachelor’s) programmes
  • 75 for postgraduate (master’s) programmes
  • 30 for doctoral (PhD) programmes

Additionally, 40 part-time scholarships are available for postgraduate courses and research, while 5 are reserved for specialised studies in interpretation, translation, and literary translation.

  • Monthly stipend (varying by study level, e.g., approximately HUF 43,700 for bachelor’s/master’s and higher for doctoral)
  • Accommodation contribution (around HUF 40,000 monthly)
  • Medical insurance (up to HUF 65,000 per year)

Students can choose from over 900 English-taught programmes across more than 30 prestigious Hungarian universities, spanning fields like engineering, sciences, arts, humanities, and more.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be Indian citizens
  • Be born before August 31, 2008 (i.e., at least 18 years old by that date for most programmes)
  • Have secured at least 60% marks in their most recent qualifying examination
  • Have completed their previous studies at a recognised Indian educational institution
  • Previous Stipendium Hungaricum recipients may reapply only for a higher or different level of study
