Lenovo Group has officially launched the “Lenovo Capital AI Fund,” a dedicated RMB 1 billion (≈$141 million) venture vehicle aimed at accelerating the global AI ecosystem, with artificial intelligence positioned as the company’s primary growth engine for the decade ahead.
The fund will invest globally but maintain a strong China focus, targeting the full AI stack from foundational models and multimodal AI to edge intelligence, embodied AI, autonomous systems, AI agents, green computing, and AI-native security solutions. It adopts a stage-agnostic approach (pre-seed through growth-stage), blending strategic alignment with Lenovo’s AI PC, server, and hybrid-cloud businesses while also pursuing pure financial returns.
Portfolio companies will gain privileged access to Lenovo’s hardware co-development pipeline, global supply chain, and go-to-market channels.Managed by Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group (LCIG), which already oversees more than $2 billion in assets, the fund closed its first RMB 1 billion tranche today with capital from Lenovo itself and several state-guided and industry partners.
Lenovo’s new RMB 1 billion AI fund is stage-agnostic and geography-flexible, with heavy emphasis on China’s startup ecosystem; it targets generative AI, multimodal models, edge and embodied intelligence, autonomous systems, AI agents, and sustainable computing; portfolio companies receive fast-track integration with Lenovo’s booming AI server and AI PC divisions; the initiative reinforces Lenovo’s transformation from hardware manufacturer to end-to-end AI solutions leader at a time when its infrastructure business is growing over 60% year-over-year on AI demand.
Speaking at the Shanghai launch, Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing declared, “AI is the new electricity, and this fund will power the innovations that electrify every industry.” With this move, Lenovo joins Xiaomi, Baidu, and Alibaba in the intensifying race to fund and shape the world’s next wave of artificial intelligence breakthroughs.
