The Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) has denied any connection with Jorah Jajo (42) and her daughter Leisa Jajo (22) from Nongdam Tangkhul, presently staying at Yaingangpokpi Awang Leikai.
They were arrested on April 6, 2023, by a combined Special Commando Unit of Imphal East and West District Police and the Ukhrul District Police on charges of over-ground workers of MNPF and connected to the recent bomb blasts in Ukhrul Bazar.
However, in a press release, MNPF’s publicity secretary Thomas Numai stated that the outfit has no involvement with the arrested individuals.
According to the press release, Jorah Jajo had been selling cooked meat at Yaingangpokpi Bazar to earn a living for her family, while her daughter Leisa Jajo is a student at Biramangol College and working as a private tutor to supplement their income.
The statement further added that MNPF had nothing to do with the recent bomb blasts in Ukhrul, which were claimed responsible by the National Council of Kanglei (NASOCK) on April 5, 2023.
The outfit expressed concern that innocent people were being targeted and tortured by the police instead of investigating the real culprits, which violated human rights.
The MNPF called for the police to perform their duties in a just manner and protect innocent citizens instead of terrorizing them. The outfit emphasized that it was not involved in any criminal activities and that the police’s attempt to link them with the recent bomb blasts was an attempt to tarnish its image.
The MNPF’s statement highlights the need for accountability and transparency in the police force’s actions and for the authorities to ensure that innocent people are not targeted and punished for crimes they did not commit.
