Showing unwavering support for Anti Corruption Agencies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that “they don’t need to be on the defensive” while dealing with corruption, even though some people with “vested interests” continue to scream and vilify them.
Speaking at the “Vigilance Awareness Week” organized by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), the prime minister urged the panel, other agencies, and officials to ensure that no corrupt person is spared, no matter how powerful the person is. . He said it is the responsibility of Anti Corruption Agencies like the CVC that no corrupt person gets “political or social refuge”.
“Every corrupt person must be accountable to society. It is important to build such an atmosphere. We are seeing hymns sung by already corrupt people. People who call themselves honest aren’t ashamed to be photographed with such corrupt people. This situation is not good for Indian society, ”he said.
Without mentioning any names, Modi claimed that people are making arguments in support of the corrupt and claiming rewards for them.
“Anti Corruption Agencies like CVC working against grafting and corruption don’t need to be on the defensive. If you are working for the welfare of the country, there is no need to live in guilt. “We don’t have a job on the political agenda, but it is our duty to root out the problems faced by the common man of the country.
People with vested interests will scream, they will try to strangle the institutions, and they will try to defame the godly people who sit in these institutions. Everything will pass, “he said.
Citing his own experience, Modi said that during his long tenure as head of government he suffered insults and abuse, but people support you when you walk the path of honesty. “I can tell you from my experience that you walk the path of honesty, that you do your duty, and people will support you. Some will keep screaming because their own feet are in the mud. I keep repeating that if we have followed the path of honesty and integrity, there is no need to be defensive. When you act with conviction … society supports you, “he said.
PM Modi said all government agencies should work to change the system and tradition of corruption as India celebrates 75 years of independence. He said the country must have “zero tolerance” for corruption in the administrative ecosystem and this would work for the idea of a developed India.
