Police tourist booths with police personnel wearing fluorescent jackets are being arranged at various Manipur Sangai Festival spots to assist tourists, especially foreigners and tourists from outside Manipur during the festival. This is the first time in Manipur.
Speaking to the media at Babupara, Imphal on Sunday, DIG range III, K Angam said tourists who come to attend the Sangai Festival can get assistance from the Police tourist booths which are set up at various places where Sangai Festival is being organized.
The press conference was attended by SP Imphal West, Ksh Shivakanta Singh; SP Imphal East, M Pradip Singh; and SP Traffic, K Ajit Kumar Sharma to make the Police Tourist Booths a successful mission.
Eight police tourist booths are set up in Imphal West district, he said, adding that at each police tourist booths, four to eight police personnel wearing fluorescent jackets will be deputed to assist and guide the tourists.
For parking spaces in the Imphal area, there will be no parking zone along GPO (CM Bungalow traffic island) to Palace Compound crossing (General Thangal statue) passing through Sanjenthong; Palace Compound crossing (General Thangal statue) to Hatta crossing and for GPO to MST, Moirangkhom only single parking will be allowed exclusively for employees whose offices are located along the stretches, he added.
The DIG appealed to the general public who are coming to visit the Manipur Sangai Festival to park their vehicles at earmarked parking spaces and to cooperate with Manipur police and traffic police personnel.
DIG Angam further said that as per government order, no commercial vehicles will be allowed to ply within the Imphal City area from 6 am to 10 pm every day during the Manipur Sangai Festival.
He appealed to the commercial vehicle owners to follow the government order and warned of necessary legal action against those violating the order.
