Imphal/November 12, 2023(SPN)| A sit-in protest was held today by Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Lup and Eastern Popular Club today at Thoidingjam Lairembi in Khurai for missing Meitei students.
The protest was held in connection with the recent disappearance of two Meitei students from Kangpokpi District, bordering Imphal West, sparking outrage across the valley. Avinash Maibam (16) and Anthony Ningthoujam (19) have been missing for a week, not returning home after leaving for Sekmai on a Sunday morning.
Yaipha Lamjing Nupi Lup Secretary, Ningthoujam (Ongbi) Premila, appealed to the State government to locate the missing students and reunite them with their families. She urged both the State and Centre to restore peace in the region, emphasizing that the government should not remain passive amid the ongoing challenges.
Urgent calls are made to the Manipur and Indian governments to address these concerns promptly, considering property loss and displacement of people. The war against Meitei by Kuki Narco terrorists must cease immediately, and the government should expel them from Manipur while implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to protect indigenous people.
Protestors displayed placards with messages like “Meeyamgi Punshi Amadi Lan Thum Kallu” and “India Sarkar Amadi Manipur Leingakna Athuba Matamda Shanti Hanjilhallu.”
Similarly, there was a widespread protest against the missing Meitei students, Hijam Linthoingambi (17) and Phijam Hemjit (20) on July 6, 2023. The valley erupted when photos of their bodies surfaced on September 25, 2023.
The Manipur government confirmed the bodies belonged to the missing students. Still, the families have not received the bodies of the missing Meitei students. In that case, no justice has been delivered and handed over to the CBI for further investigations.
