67844 fake voters remove in Manipur during 2019

Manipur removes 67844 fake voters through electoral verification programme in 2019.

CM N Biren on Saturday said the Electoral Verification Programme 2019 has identified and removed 67,844 voters, including fake voters. Pointing out that 24,636 voters have been removed from the electoral list of one district alone, he said the state will continue to suffer unrest if people are not sincere enough.

He said the Manipur government will not remain silent on any unjust deed or act. “If we are not sincere enough and don’t have a sense of belongingness and care with ownership, unrest will prevail in our state. The Electoral Verification Programme 2019 has identified and removed 67,844 voters, including fake voters, with 24,636 from one district alone,” Biren tweeted on Saturday.

The chief minister said that the state government has also recommended the Centre for the omission of 282 deserted hamlets under MGNREGS.

“In another case, the state government has singled out and also recommended the Centre for the omission of 282 deserted hamlets under MGNREGS. The Manipur Government will not remain silent on any unjust deed or act,” the chief minister said in another Twitter post.

In 2019, the Electors Verification Programme, spearheaded by the Election Commission of India (ECI), was launched in Manipur by CEO Manipur, PK Singh.

PK Singh said that the programme was launched all over the country at the same time with 36 CEOs at the State HQs, 740 DEOs at the State level and around one million BLO/ERO launching the programme simultaneously.

In Manipur, the programme was launched at 11 district HQs and 39 EROs, PK Singh added. He said that the programme was taken up by the ECI to ensure proper enrolment of the voters, eliminate errors in the electoral rolls and ensure speedy and proper electoral services delivery to the people.

During the EVP, voters can see whether their details, photos and other information in the electoral roll are correct or not and if any errors are found, they can be corrected. However, to do so, the voters need to bring their Indian passport, driving license, Aadhaar card, ration card, PAN card, Govt/semi-Govt ID cards, bank passbook or farmer cards, he explained.

By uploading one of the said documents through the NVSP portal (www.nvsp.in) or through the mobile app, Voter Helpline, the voters can make the necessary correction. People with disabilities can make the necessary correction by calling the voter helpline number 1950, he added.

The CEO continued that the correction can also be done at the Common Service Centres (CSCs) as well as the Voter Facilitation Centres which are specially opened at the ERO offices. He conveyed that all the 666 CSCs of the State have been made aware of the procedures and processes and added that the centres will take some fee for making the necessary corrections but this fee will range from just around Re 1 to Rs 10.

PK Singh said that for the remote areas, the BLOs will go from house to house to conduct EVP and for the said purpose an app called, BLO Net has been utilised.
