Maryland/ September 21, 2023 (SPN) | In the midst of a changing holiday hiring landscape, Amazon is set to hire an impressive 250,000 part-time and full-time seasonal workers across the United States for the upcoming holiday season.
This number represents a significant increase from the previous year, as Amazon aims to bolster its workforce during a period when overall holiday hiring at US retailers is projected to be the lowest since 2008.
Amazon’s seasonal recruitment drive includes the creation of 9,000 jobs in Virginia and an additional 9,000 jobs in Maryland. These two states house several of Amazon’s key warehouse and fulfillment centers, including strategically vital last-mile distribution facilities.
The range of logistics positions being filled for the holiday season encompasses both warehouse roles and delivery driver positions.
In a move aimed at attracting top talent, Amazon has committed to competitive compensation packages for its seasonal workers.
The pay scale will range from an average of $17 to $23 per hour, with an impressive average hourly rate of $20.50. Certain specialized positions will offer an even higher wage of $28 per hour. Additionally, select seasonal workers may become eligible for bonus incentives.
Highlighting its commitment to local communities, Amazon reports significant investments in both Maryland and Virginia over the past decade. In Maryland, the e-commerce giant has poured more than $13.5 billion into the local economy and generated 25,000 direct job opportunities.
In Virginia, the company’s investments total a staggering $109 billion, resulting in the creation of over 36,000 jobs.
As part of its ongoing expansion strategy, Amazon has opened over 50 new fulfillment centers and delivery stations in the United States this year alone. This network expansion is not only a testament to Amazon’s commitment to meeting growing customer demand but also to the creation of thousands of employment opportunities.
Amazon’s formidable hiring initiative reaffirms its position as the second-largest retail employer in the United States, second only to Walmart.
While Walmart’s seasonal hiring plans for this year remain undisclosed, it is worth noting that the retail giant significantly reduced its holiday hires in 2022 compared to the previous year.
