Visiting Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates the 122 feet tall Marjing Polo Statue at Marjing Polo Complex in Imphal today. Amit Shah also inaugurates developmental projects worth Rs 300.88 crore and laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs. 1007 crore for Manipur at Chingei Lampak, Moirang.
Restoring Manipur’s polo game – Sagol Kangjei – will inspire youngsters toward the game, Amit Shah said at the inauguration of Marjing Polo Statue.
“It is believed that Sagol Kangjei, the modern-day Polo game originated in Manipur. Today, inaugurated a 122 feet statue of a polo player at the Marjing Polo Complex in Imphal. This will surely take the legacy forward and inspire more youngsters toward the game,” Amit Shah tweeted.
Terming it a historic moment for Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren also tweeted that the ancestral legacy has been honored with the installation of the statue of Manipur’s polo.
Biren said, “It is a great privilege & a historic moment for the people of Manipur to have Hon’ble Union Home Minister Sh @AmitShah Ji inaugurate the Marjing Polo Statue. This 122 ft polo statue will highlight the significance as the birthplace of Polo & revive the glory of Manipur.”
“On this historic day, our ancestors and their legacy have been honored and the game of Sagol Kangjei glorified as Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri@AmitShah ji inaugurates the 122 feet statue of a polo player at Marjing Complex,” Biren tweeted.
Agri Minister Th Biswajit posted on his Facebook page about the significance of Polo and the heritage of Manipur.
Biswajit said, “It’s a glorious moment for the entire Manipur as Hon’ble Union Home Minister Sh Amit Shah Ji inaugurates the 122 ft tall Marjing Polo Statue. This statue will highlight the State’s significance as the birthplace of Polo and uphold the heritage of Manipur.”
Manipur Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam also said, “It’s a moment of Great significance in our History as Hon. Union Home Minister Sh Amit Shah Ji inaugurates the Marjing Polo Statue. This iconic structure highlights the significance of Manipur as the birthplace of Polo and is an apt tribute to the glorious history of our state.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Imphal late Thursday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of as many as 21 developmental projects worth Rs 1,311 crore in Manipur today.
Later, Amit Shah inaugurates the Churachandpur Medical College which is the first Medical College in the hill district of Manipur.
At Moirang, Amit Shah also unfurled the 165 feet tricolor flag, which is the tallest National Flag in the Northeast. CM N Biren said that this will renew the sense of patriotism and educate the new generations about freedom fighters and their sacrifices.
