AMUCO Presents 8-Point Demands Submitted to the Prime Minister to the Public

Bishnupur/November 10, 2023SPN)| The “WAY FORWARD” Campaign, organized by the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO), took place at Phougakchao Ikhai today. The 8-point demands submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi were shared with the public as well.

Santosh Koijam, Secretary Organisation of AMUCO, and Dr. Norendro Thokchom, Secretary General, presented the “WAY FORWARD” Campaign, highlighting its significance. Laishram Krishnachandra, Secretary of Publicity at AMUCO, along with Th. Ajit and S. Sanjoy, further emphasized the campaign’s objectives.

The 8-point demands that were submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi were brought to the public’s attention as part of the campaign:

1. Immediate intervention to stop violence against people.
2. Rehabilitation of conflict victims whose houses have been burnt and internally displaced, providing them with basic amenities and security.
3. Amendment of Article 3 of the Constitution of India to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur, along with adding a special clause for the protection and promotion of Manipuri identity and cultural heritage within the framework of Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, safeguarding the autonomy and unique characteristics of Manipur.
4. Expedite the execution of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to counteract illegal infiltration into Manipur and contribute to ensuring a secure India.
5. Urging the establishment of the District Reorganisation Committee for the reconsideration of district reorganization, particularly in areas like Kangpokpi District (Sadhar Hills) and Bishnupur District, emphasizing the need for a thoughtful and inclusive approach to restructuring that will prevent the formation of entities based on ethnic communities.
6. Proposing the establishment of Special Administration Zones, including the Moreh Special Administration Zone and Behiang Administration Zone, to address specific local needs and concerns.
7. Advocating for the preservation of Community and Reserved Forests based on the 1932 Manipur State Darbar resolution, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
8. Additionally, the campaign addressed the root cause of the ongoing May 3 conflict and devised measures to tackle the issue of drug abuse, particularly the challenges posed by the narco trade and poppy cultivation, calling for comprehensive strategies to combat substance abuse and promote a drug-free Manipur.

Key figures, including W. Basanta, President of the United Clubs’ Organisation of Bishnupur District (UCOBID); Keithellakpam Kegesana, President of Phougakchao Makha Leikai Meira Paibi Apunba Lup; Khomdram Ratan, President of Kangvai and Surrounding Village United Clubs’ Organisation (KASVUCO); and Th. Ajit, President of the National Research Centre (NRC), along with S. Sanjoy, Vice President of AMUCO, formed the presidium members. AMUCO urged people to actively participate in the discussion and work together on these 8-point demands as a common agenda.
