Manipur University celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day at its Canchipur campus on Saturday with patriotic fervour and a renewed commitment to national unity, progress and nation-building through education.
Manipur University participated in a Pipe Band performance organised by the 33 Assam Rifles at the Biodiversity Park, near Centenary Hall, Manipur University, on Wednesday, bringing together personnel of the Assam Rifles and the University community in a celebration of patriotism, national unity and respect for the country’s armed forces.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Manipur University, organised Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Phase–2 at the Court Hall, Manipur University, Canchipur, on August 12 under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The programme focused on engaging young people with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and encouraging them to become responsible, disciplined and socially conscious citizens while promoting a drug-free society.
Manipur University on Monday inaugurated a two-week Refresher Course on “Advances in Physical Education, Sports Sciences, and Yoga”, with Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge) Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh emphasising the need to strengthen scientific knowledge, research capabilities and continuous professional development in the rapidly evolving fields of physical education, sports science and yoga.
Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh said universities have a responsibility to produce objective academic research capable of helping society understand complex issues. He appreciated the Department of Anthropology for publishing a timely volume devoted to Manipur’s continuing unrest and expressed hope that the research would contribute to informed academic discussions beyond the state.
The health camp was jointly organised by the Manipur University Health Centre (MUHC), Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol, with the objective of promoting preventive healthcare and improving the overall well-being of the university community.
Dr. Thangjam Robert Singh of Manipur University participated as an expert in a biotechnology brainstorming session in Guwahati, highlighting the scope of multidisciplinary research for sustainable use of North-East India’s rich plant genetic resources.
The lecture on AI programme aimed to expose participants to global best practices in Artificial Intelligence, innovation and university-industry collaboration while encouraging a stronger culture of research, entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer within higher education.
The panel noted that the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation has been extending annual financial assistance to public libraries in North Eastern India under various development schemes on a 90:10 funding pattern. In Manipur, proposals are examined by the State Library Planning Committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, before being recommended for assistance under different RRRLF schemes.
The NSS Cell, Manipur University, organised the State-level launch of Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, attended by Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh and around 1,100 NSS volunteers and youth participants.
Manipur University faculty member Dr. L. Santosh Singh received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the Thailand National Sports University International Conference 2026 for research on high-intensity interval training and football performance.
A five-day Capacity Building Programme on the National Mission on Libraries for Public Library Personnel was inaugurated today at the Court Hall, Manipur University. The programme is being organised by the Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University, and sponsored by National Mission on Libraries, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
