Badminton Championships 2025 Kick Off in Imphal

The 42nd Inter District and 69th Junior State Open Badminton Championships 2025 commenced today, July 23, 2025, at the MSBA Indoor Stadium near DM University Campus, Imphal. The opening ceremony was graced by Thongam Biswajit Singh, President of MSBA and MLA of Thongju A/C.

On the opening ceremony, Thongam Biswajit Singh conveyed his best wishes to the competing players and teams, encouraging their passion to drive them toward achievements in national and international arenas. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of the organising committee, volunteers, and supporters in bringing the event to fruition.

The tournament has attracted significant participation, with 129 players from 9 districts competing. Altogether, 168 entries have been submitted, and the event will feature 151 matches, beginning today and concluding on July 26. The championships promise an exciting display of talent and sportsmanship over the next few days.

Manipuri badminton players have made remarkable strides on the national and international stage. When discussing shuttlers from the state, Meiraba Maisnam is a name that stands out.

Additionally, Manipur’s star shuttler Priya Konjengbam has become the first player from Manipur and the entire Northeast region to qualify for the prestigious All England Badminton Championship 2025.

Other notable players who have earned recognition include Khwairakpam Manjit Singh, Konthoujam Dingku Singh, Salam Bidyasagar, H Malemnganba, Jomi Singam, Sushanta M, Rishav Ng, H Rohenkumar, RK Alen, Kasprov A, Leonie Tayenjam, K Gunjan Devi, Sananu M, and Ch Bellarix.
