CM N Biren launched the brand “MANIFRESH” under which, organic produce from the hills will be marketed. On Friday, he attended the launching of the new innovative scheme under “War on Drugs 2.0” named “Cultivation of Horticulture Crops as an Alternative to Poppy Cultivation in Hill Areas”.
The launching function of “Manifresh” was organised by Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur at it’s Directorate office complex at Sanjenthong, Imphal.
A sum of Rs 4 Crore has been sanctioned for this scheme. In the last few years, poppy plantations have been destroyed from nearly 6600 acres of land.
N Biren tweeted, “Glad to have launched the “Cultivation of Horticulture crop as an alternative to poppy plantation in hill areas” scheme. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance, farm inputs and marketing assistance to the farmers for producing these alternative crops.”
CM also flagged off truck loads of fruits saplings to 5 (five) hill districts of the State. Minister Horticulture & Soil Conservation and TA & Hills, Shri Letpao Haokip, ACS Horticulture & SC, Shri P.Vaiphei also attended the function among others.
