With the launching of 5G in Manipur, the State became the first state in Northeast India to launch the 5G Network when Chief Minister N Biren Singh launched it on Wednesday at the CM secretariat, Babupara in Imphal West.
Addressing the media during the launch, CM Biren said that the network was launched by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Manipur in association with Bharti Hexacom (M/s Airtel) is launching 5G Network.
With this step, Manipur is the first state in North East Telecom Circle to launch 5G Network, he added.
The chief minister said that Airtel has installed around 40 small 5G network cells covering some locations in Imphal West and Imphal East districts of Manipur which are currently radiating 5G successfully. These 40 small cells (5G network) have also been tested successfully, he added.
CM Biren tweeted, “Delighted to launch 5G Network in Manipur, for the first time in NE Telecom Circle. It will deliver improved user experience in sectors including agriculture, education, health, transport, traffic management, smart cities, smart homes, and multiple applications of IoT.”
Informing about the network services of 5G in Manipur, CM Biren said that the average download speed is approximately 250-280 MBPS which is the targeted average speed of Fifth Generation (5G) Network.
Launching a 5G network in every part of the country is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As such he launched this network in India on October 1 with an objective to transform various sectors such as Agriculture, Health, Industry, disaster management, Transport, logistics, etc., Biren said.
CM further said that telecom infrastructures would extensively help in promoting better governance which is an integral part of the state’s strategy.
5G network service will provide manufacturers and telecom operators to build smart factories and take advantage of technologies such as automation and artificial intelligence, he stated.
CM Biren also pointed out that launching 5G in Manipur will improve the lives of the common man, raise the living standards of the people of Manipur, and would also generate employment opportunities in Manipur, and enhance revenue in the state.
The chief minister also requested Airtel network cover 5G in the border and remotest area of Manipur.
The launching program of 5G in Manipur was attended by the chief secretary of Manipur, additional chief secretaries, officials, and representatives from Airtel.
