CM tells youth to be job providers instead of becoming job seekers

N Biren Singh inaugurated a Start-Up Incubation Centre

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated a Start-Up Incubation Centre at D.M. College of Commerce, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal. The incubation centre is supported and funded by the Planning Department, Government of Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren appreciated the discipline and hospitality shown by students of the University on his arrival. He recalled that Start Up India was launched in 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, the scheme was materialised in the State only after the formation of his government in 2017.

Maintaining that youth of the State had got many talents and hardworking by nature, he said that lack of discipline, professionalism and ethics among the people had been causing hindrance to growth and development and even to governance.

He stressed the need for proper guidance of youth in the right direction to make them job providers instead of becoming job seekers. He said that the State Government had taken up certain steps to make educational institutions systematic and organised by appointing a regular Vice-Chancellor of the universities. Making institutions and offices work systematically would help in smooth functioning and progress of the society, he added.

N Biren Singh tweeted, “The Startup scheme aims to harness the dynamism and creativity of the youth towards inclusive and sustainable development of Manipur. Manipur is one of the highest-ranking states in the North East region which has significant growth in the number of industries and entrepreneurs.”

The Chief Minister continued that many entrepreneurs had come up with production of wide ranges of items like strawberry, poultry, fish etc, thereby helping the State in import substitution and progressing towards self-reliance in many sectors. Saying that support of public is much necessary in any development work carried out by the government, he emphasised on the need to maintain unity among all communities by bringing emotional attachment and further appealed everyone to join hands and work together for the development of the State.

Education, Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Thounaojam Basanta Singh said that Chief Minister Biren had led the State with much capability, introducing certain innovative schemes for the welfare of the people.

He appreciated the Chief Minister’s initiatives and his unique way of governing the State.
He said that youths of the State are naturally talented and what they need is only proper guidance. The Start Up Incubation Centre would provide basic training and help in materialising their innovative ideas, he added.

In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor, D.M. University Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh said that incubation centres had been set up as an integral part of the Start Up scheme to impart necessary infrastructure, mentorship, assist in obtaining financial support and to nurture and support innovations of Start Ups. He said that the National Education Policy 2020 had emphasized on skill development, entrepreneurship and to promote technology incubation.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the incubation centres aimed at enriching the Start Ups with all business related issues and opportunities, thereby laying stepping stones for the young entrepreneurs and helping them compete at global level. He further expressed hope that incubation centres would help in mitigating the unemployment problem in Manipur.

It may be mentioned that in the first phase, the incubation centre at DM University will organise a three months incubation training programme for 35 selected participants.

Vice-Chancellor, Manipur Technical University (MTU) Dr. Bhabeswar Tongbram, Registrar, D.M. University Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam, Registrar, MTU Ng. Bhogendra Meitei, Director, Planning N. Kulkarani Devi, Principals of Colleges under D.M. University, officials, Faculty members and students also attended the programme among others.
