Just two days after Chief Minister N Biren expressed that as many as 28 drug cases involving police personnel need to be handed over to the CBI if the Manipur Congress party insists on demanding the government to hand over the drug case involving five commando personnel to the top investigating agency of the country, Manipur Congress President K Meghachandra has urged the BJP government to hand over all the drug cases, be it during the Congress or BJP rule to the CBI.
Talking to reporters at Manipur Congress Bhawan here on Sunday, MPCC President Meghachandra urged the State Government to hand over all the drug-related cases starting from 2012, be it during the Congress regime or the BJP regime to the CBI.
K Meghachandra said that if the current Saffron regime is waging a war against drugs, the January 16 drug case in which a huge consignment of drugs was seized from five CDO personnel should also be handed over to the CBI. The then Congress government handed over the Imphal International Airport drug case to the CBI, he reminded.
He said that the then Congress government did not get much information about poppy plantations. The widespread poppy plantation in the State has surfaced only during the BJP regime. Whether mass poppy plantation was carried out during the Congress rule or not can be ascertained through remote sensing satellite mapping, he said.
With regard to registering an FIR against him, Meghachandra said that he got the information about the seizure of drugs from a CDO team by a team of Kakching Police while he was taking part in a function held at Khongjom on the day.
He said that upon getting the information, he immediately dropped in the SP office to appreciate him for the commendable work and there he met the SP and lauded him.
The Manipur Congress President clarified that after requesting the SP to investigate the case properly, he came out of his office. He also clarified that he neither tried to mislead the case nor threaten the SP and that media persons were already present there in connection with a press meet.
He said that the media persons approached him to take his comment as he happened to be the leader of a political party. He said that registering an FIR against him for holding a press meet without taking due permission is uncalled for.
Questioning which rule of law prohibits visiting an SP office and taking photographs, he said that an SP office is not a prohibited area. In a democracy, no rule bars any MLA from moving anywhere and extending words of appreciation.
