Several leaders of the civil society organizations, Meira Paibis and students’ organisations of the State paid floral tributes to the late Lamjing Meira Robinhood on his 7th Death Anniversary held at Awaching, Imphal East district on Friday.
Talking to reporters on the side-lines of the anniversary function, Joint Committee for Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Convenor Konsam Phulindro strongly denounced the decision of the government to fix 1961 as base year instead of 1951 for Inner Line Permit System (ILPS).
He said that the adoption of 1951 as the base year for ILP was approved by the people of both hills and valley after having a threadbare discussion. He also disclosed that the committee is planning to unveil a statue of Late S. Robinhood.
He informed that the committee will be organising a meeting soon to reaffirm the stand against the decision of the Cabinet meeting to adopt 1961 as the base year for ILP. He said that the adoption of 1951 as the base year for ILP is not acceptable to all the communities of the State.
S. Romesh, father of Late Sapam Robinhood said that his eldest son Robinhood who was killed during a protest demonstration sacrificed his life for the sake of the State. He appealed to the State Government to unveil a statue of his son so that he could see it before he left the earth.
Lauding JCILPS for taking the initiative to protect the State from the unchecked influx of immigrants, he assured that he and his family will extend support to the movement spearheaded by the committee.
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has observed the 7th Death Anniversary of Lamjing Meira Robinhood on Friday, July 8 at MGM Club, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East.
As a part of the observance, the volunteers offered floral tributes to the photo of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood.
FOCS Manipur President Th Manihar said that the volunteers of the organization paid floral tributes to the photo of Robinhood at Awaching in the morning.
He said that Lamjing Meira Robinhood who was a student of Ananda Higher Secondary School was killed in a firing during the protest demanding for implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
The President appealed to the State government to frame and implement a law to protect the integrity of the State so that all the valley and hill people live in peace.
