Drug factory busted at Moijing

NRFM urges that April 27 should not be taken lightly.

Continuing the War on Drugs, a team of Thoubal District Police busted drug factory at Moijing Wangmataba Chingya Leikai on Thursday evening. The police team also arrested a man along with 934 gram of drugs.  

Police sources said on receipt of reliable information, a team of Thoubal District Police along with women police personnel headed by Additional SP(L/O) Shangkar Dev under the supervision of SP Jogeshchnadra Haobijam busted a drug manufacturing unit opened at the residence of Moijingmayum Jaman (63), son of Late Muheiruddin at Moijing Wangmataba Chingya Leikai on Thursday at around 7.30 PM.

The team also seized 934 gram of drugs and materials used in manufacturing drugs. The drugs wrapped in polythene were concealed inside a coop at the residence.

While police have arrested Md.Jaman, a case has been registered under NDPS Act for investigation, conveyed a source.

On the other hand, a team of Kakching District Commando while conducting a search operation under the supervision of SP Shrey Vats at Pallel Laimanai check point seized 9.824 kg of WY tablets from two individuals who were coming in a white colour Maruti Gypsy without registration number from Tengnoupal.  

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Sheikholun Vaiphei (34), son of Thangpao Vaiphei of Zion Veng, Moreh Part IV and Th.Khaljakham Baite (30), son of Paonam Baite of Moreh Ward No 9. The commando team also found Rs 1,25,000 cash from the two individuals who have been handed over to Kakching Police Station for further necessary action, added the source.

On August 7, Manipur police seized Brown sugar worth Rs 82 crore in international market and materials used in drug factory at Lilong Chingkham Makha in Thoubal district on Sunday.

The combined team of Police and IRB cordoned the house of Imem Bibi (49), wife of Late Md.Salauddin of Lilong Chingkham Makha Leikai and conducted a search by following due formalities. In that, the team found Yumkhaibam Mustapha (19), son of Basir of Irong Umang manufacturing illegal drugs.

Within two and a half years, drugs worth Rs 2,000 crore have been seized and five drug manufacturing makeshift factories were busted. In 2019, in what was regarded as the biggest haul of contraband drugs in the North East, Thoubal district police busted an illegal drug manufacturing factory in Lilong and seized 184.64 kilograms of brown sugar, worth Rs 166 crore. In another instance, Churachandpur district police busted drug factory used for manufacturing brown sugar. These instances shed light on the success of govt’s War on Drugs in Manipur.
