The Directorate of Fisheries is organizing First Imoinu Fish Festival, 2023 on January 3, to mark the occasion of Ima Imoinu Irat Thouram at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East, from 9 am to 5 pm.
The notification issued by H Balkrishna Singh, Director of Fisheries has instructed fish farmers and other participants to bring their fish produce from 9 am to 11 am while adding that entry of participating fish farmers beyond this time will not be allowed.
The notification further instructed the fish farmers to bring their own weighing machines and to segregate their fish based on species for assessment by assessment officials.
“The objective of the First Imoinu fish festival is to facilitate Nga (fish) for religious offerings while promoting the fisheries sector for sustainable growth and development. The Imoinu fish festival will also serve as a “One Stop Solution” for the citizens of the Ima Imoinu Irat Thouram where fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, and many more will be available with the participation of Agriculture and allied departments of the government of Manipur and other private firms,” H Balkrishna said in a release.
Further, it has been informed that the first Imoinu Fish Festival 2023 will be conducted with strict adherence to Covid protocols including maintaining social distancing at all times and allowing participation of only mask-wearing people. It may be noted that entry and parking of only participants’ vehicles and vehicles used for carrying fish will be allowed on the festival premises.
There will be around 90 stalls where more than 150 fish farmers, agro and allied farmers will be participating in the Imoinu fish festival. The Department is targeting to produce around 50,000 kg of fish during the Imoinu fish festival.
A special attraction of the Imoinu fish festival will be organic Chadong fish and 2000 kg of Live Manipur Sareng. The inauguration of the festival will be graced by Heikham Dingo Singh, Fisheries Minister; Kongkham Robindro, MLA of Mayang Imphal; Sanasam Premchandra, MLA of Kumbi and Haobam Rosita IAS, Secretary (Fisheries).
