Self-confidence is critical for a child’s healthy development. Here are some steps to help our children enjoy life to the fullest, paving the way for them to face the world with ease.

When we help our children develop self-confidence, they will feel important and worthy. An increase in our children’s self-confidence is a powerful weapon against the challenges of the world. Children who feel good about themselves appear to cope better with conflict and resist negative pressure. They are more likely to smile and enjoy life.

These kids are realistic and generally upbeat. Kids who feel important are also well-rounded and respectful, excel in academics, extracurricular activities, and hobbies, and develop healthy relationships with their peers.

Kids must be groomed in such a way that they develop their own space to rule. We should not kill their dreams and ideas. When we praise them, they will do wonders in their hobbies. We must try to inspire our kids, and make them feel important in our lives. They will reciprocate to us and try to be responsible when we show our kids that we need them in our lives. The best way to give importance to our kids is to engage them in our daily activities and make our kids part of the activities.

For instance, when we do kitchen gardening, engage them. Let them plant some vegetables or water the plants. Never prevent them from enjoying the garden, if they wish to play with the plants. However, we should keep a watch so that they are safe from spades and other sharp gardening tools.

In contrast, kids who do not feel self-important or cherished have very low self-esteem, and small challenges can become sources of major anxiety and frustration. Children who think poorly of themselves have difficulty finding solutions to problems and may become passive, withdrawn, or depressed.

Most parents compare their kids with other children. They will say other kids have achieved, got high grades on tests, or won awards in shows. Don’t compare your kids with others.

Show by example to increase self-confidence

You are the biggest influence in your child’s feeling important, valued, and worthy. We must praise our child for a job well done, and also for putting in a valiant effort. Praise the good characters they naturally possess and help them find ways to learn from their mistakes and failures.

We must be honest and sincere in our praise. And help them realize that we also suffer from self-doubt and can make mistakes from time to time, but that we know that we are important, valued, and loved. When we nurture our own self-worth and importance, our child will learn to do the same, so be sure to lead by example and avoid self-depreciation.

Our children may hold erroneous or irrational beliefs about themselves, their abilities, or their characteristics. We must highlight our children’s positive characteristics and encourage them to set realistic expectations and standards for themselves in life.

We must assist them in identifying any qualities or skills they wish to improve and in developing a game plan to achieve that specific goal. We must encourage our children to participate in cooperative activities that foster a sense of accomplishment and teamwork.

Our child will develop a strong sense of self-esteem, as well as self-confidence, value, and worth, as a result of these and other positive, affirming activities, which will carry over into their adult years.
