Imphal West Police Rescue Kidnapped Student and Arrest Eight Suspects

Imphal/ December 09, 2023 (SPN)| In a successful operation, the Imphal West Police apprehended eight members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) from Yumnam Huidrom, under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Police Station. The operation was initiated following a kidnapping report filed by Laishram Shyamchand, a resident of Ngaikhong Siphai in Bishnupur district. His son, Laishram Chinglen, a 22-year-old student residing at the DM College of Science New Boys Hostel, was held for ransom with the kidnappers demanding Rs 15 lakhs for his safe return.

Ksh Shivakanta, the Superintendent of Police for Imphal West, briefed the media about the incident. He stated that the Imphal West Police received a complaint about the kidnapping of Laishram Chinglen on December 8th around 1:30 PM. The kidnappers threatened the parents with dire consequences if the ransom was not paid.

Upon receiving the information, the Imphal West Police immediately conducted raids at various locations. Around 2 AM on December 9th, a team of Imphal District Police carried out a raid at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai. During the raid, the missing student was found and rescued from the house of one Asem Chaoba. Four suspected kidnappers were apprehended from the house, and another four were arrested nearby in two vehicles.

The arrested suspects were identified as Khwairakpam Rajen Singh, Sukham James Singh, Moirangthem Amarjit, Taorem Rohit, Kakenphaibam Hemjit, Chandam Romen, Khangembam Dayananda, and Sarungbam Umananda. Interrogation revealed their affiliation with the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and that they were operating under Lamyanba Khuman.

The police recovered several arms and ammunition, along with a Honda Civic and a Swift car from the suspects. An investigation has been initiated into the incident. The rescued student, Laishram Chinglen, is safe, and the arrested individuals have been paraded in front of the media. A case has been registered for further investigation.
