Former Dean of Central Agricultural University, Dr. Naorem Iboton Singh has been conferred the Recognition Award 2022 by the Indian Phytopathological Society during the Platinum Jubilee Celebration at the University of Mysore in Karnataka today.
The IPS Recognition Award was instituted in 2010 to recognize scientists for their significant contributions to the field of Plant Pathology in India.
Dr. Naorem Iboton discovered new diseases of plants and among his research, the significant ones are the reports on three new diseases of rice which is a world record. He also produced scientific methods to control those new diseases of rice.
One of the most effective bio-agents, Penicillium citrinum was also introduced by Dr. Iboton for the first time and is now used by farmers in the State, which is helping the Organic farming method.
Plant Pathologist across the Country nominated his name for the IPS Recognition Award and was approved in November last year. The IPS conferred the Awards to three more Agricultural Scientists at the Platinum Jubilee Conference today. Dr. Iboton is the first recipient of this Award from the Eastern Zone of the Indian Phytopathological Society.
Other recipients of IPS Recognition Award 2022 are Dr. B.N. Chakraborty, Dr. R. Sridhar, and Dr. A.P. Suryawanshi from the North, South, and West zones.
Earlier, Dr. Naorem Iboton was awarded the Fellow of the Indian Phytopathological Society (FPSI) in 1988. He was the recipient of the Award of Honour in 2018 from the Indian Society of Plant Pathologists and the Recognition Award from the Association of Plant Pathologists in 2019.
The Platinum Jubilee Conference of the Indian Phytopathological Society under the theme Plant and Soil Health Management: Issues and Innovations is currently organized by the University of Mysore, Karnataka from Feb 2-4, 2023.
