Three people, including a woman, were summoned by a team of Singjamei police in connection with viral videos on social media accusing Chief Minister N Biren of accepting recruitment bribes through an employee CM Secretariat.
The three were identified as Sorokhaibam Lukhoi alias Premjit Singh, 50, son of (L) S Shyamkishwor Singh of Kakwa Sorokhaibam Leikai, Imphal West; Naorem ongbi Manglembi Devi, 55, wife of Naorem Pradeep Singh of Sangaiprou Mamang Leikai, Imphal West and Salam Kingson Singh, 46, son of (L) S Ningthouremba Singh of Bhramapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal East. Imphal West Police Superintendent Ksh Shivakanta Singh told media in Imphal on Tuesday that the three people had been summoned by Singjamei Police Station in connection with the viral video shot about four months ago.
During the interrogation, it was learned that the viral video was shot on August 13 in which the three talked about owing each other money. The conversation took place at Kingson’s residence, the SP reported.
It was also learned that in 2019, Premjit borrowed a sum of Rs 4 lakh from Kingson for his business purposes and another Rs 18 lakh from Senjam Manglem of Cachar, the brother of Manglembi, Shivakanta said. Manglembi accepted that she had used Chief Minister N Biren’s name, which is unrelated to their conversation, the SP reported. She also revealed that there is no one in her family who has applied for a government job and that she has no money-related matters with Premjit, the SP added. As part of the investigation, police contacted Manglem by telephone, who revealed that while Premjit owes him money, Premjit did not use CM’s name, but only owes him money for his business, the senior officer said of police.

However, in the viral video, the three people had used the name of Sorokhaibam Romesh, who allegedly worked in the CM secretariat and had paid bribes through him to the CM for recruiting purposes.
However, they revealed that Romesh is unemployed and not employed at the CM Secretariat, SP Shivkanta said.
The Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta urged people not to create baseless videos on social media for self-interest. Any individual found doing similar baseless allegations should be reported to the nearest police station, he said.
