Manipuri Judoka Shushila Likmabam received the prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2022 from President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday for her outstanding achievements.
Shushila Likmabam from Heingang AC in Imphal East is one of the two Arjuna Award winners from Northeast India. Assam’s Nayanmoni Saikia is the other Arjuna Awardee for 2022.
Shushila won Gold medals in 2018 and 2019 Commonwealth Judo Championships. She also won silver at the Birmingham meet in 2022. Shushila was India’s lone Judoka to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.
Congratulating the achievements, CM N Biren tweeted, “Another proud moment for Manipur as Judoka Shushila Devi Likmabam gets honored with the prestigious Arjuna Award 2022. I congratulate her and wish her success in all her future endeavors.”
Manipur YAS Minister Govindas Konthoujam posted on his official Facebook page, “Congratulations Shushula Devi Likmabam for rewarding her as an #ArjunaAward for her performance in the field of Judo. Wish you all the best.”
