Churachandpur/August 15, 2023 (SPN) | Continuing the spirit of previous years’ enthusiasm, the 77th Independence Day was joyfully celebrated by Kuki Zo village volunteers in the Churachandpur district, signaling the return of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
This collective celebration comes in the wake of a harmonious initiative by the Committee on Tribal Unity Sadar Hills (CoTU), which has brought together Kuki Zo village volunteers to mark this significant occasion.
CoTU, a steadfast advocate for tribal unity, is spearheading this exuberant event under the leadership of its Defence Department. Collaborating with other CoTU departments and the Kuki Zo community, the grand celebration aims to resonate with the nation’s fervor for freedom and pay homage to India’s Independence Day.
Janghaolun Haokip, a dedicated member of CoTU’s Media Cell, highlighted the significance of this upcoming celebration. Despite any existing differences, the Committee on Tribal Unity has unanimously decided to join the nationwide observance of India’s Independence Day.
Haokip extended a warm invitation to the Kuki Zo people, urging them to unite under the umbrella of CoTU’s Defence Department for this momentous event.
In accordance with their dedication to this occasion, CoTU has adorned its premises, including the iconic Brig. M. Thomas ground, along with their vehicles, with the tricolor of the Indian flag. This symbolic gesture reflects their unwavering allegiance to the nation’s core values.
An inspiring collaboration by Kuki Zo youths has also led to the proud display of the tricolors along the National Highway in Kangpokpi town, reaffirming the spirit of unity and patriotism.
As the nation gears up to celebrate its Independence Day, the harmonious efforts of CoTU and Kuki Zo village volunteers stand as a testament to the enduring unity that binds communities together in the pursuit of a shared heritage.
This is not the first time Independence Day is observed in the Hill districts of Manipur. Every year, the District Administration has been celebrating the event in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi every year.
During the covid years, Independence Day reverberated with patriotic zeal at the Tuibong Peace Ground in 2021, where Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, Pawan Yadav, unfurling the National Tri-Colour, followed by a salute to the marching contingents from 4 Parade Contingents, under the command of Shri David Kilong, MPS, SDPO Thanlon.
In Kangpokpi also, amidst a gentle drizzle and a misty sky, a significant gathering of Kangpokpi residents eagerly converged to partake in the 73rd Independence Day festivities in 2019. The lively event unfolded at the Brigadier M. Thomas Ground, despite the muddy terrain, and was orchestrated by the District Administration, Kangpokpi.
