Imphal/ July 27, 2023 (SPN) | In a stunning turn of events, an officer from the Police Department thwarted protestors’ attempts to burn an effigy of Mizoram CM Zoramthanga, at the Western Gate of the Kangla Fort today.
Despite Mizoram CM Zoramthanga’s recent remarks promoting the separation of Manipur, the State Police went to great lengths to protect the dignity and safety of their neighboring CM.
The incident took place around 2:30 pm when demonstrators, organized by the group “My Manipur,” gathered to protest CM Zoramthanga’s recent controversial remarks against Manipur CM N Biren. The Police officer swiftly snatched the effigy of Mizoram CM from the protestors’ hands, preventing its destruction.
Following the rally in Mizoram where Manipur CM N Biren’s image was tarnished in the presence of Mizoram CM Zoramthanga, protests erupted across Imphal Valley, with citizens expressing their disapproval of CM Zoramthanga’s derogatory remarks and his alleged meddling in Manipur’s internal affairs.
Speaking on behalf of “My Manipur,” spokesperson Mangangleima Salainganbi condemned Mizoram CM Zoramthanga’s statement, asserting that Manipur should have the autonomy to handle its internal affairs without any interference.
She emphasized that CM N Biren is a popular leader who tirelessly works for the welfare and safety of the people and the state. Moreover, Manipur is actively combating drug-related issues and working to preserve its Reserved and Protected areas.
The spokesperson accused CM Zoramthanga of sowing seeds of discord among the seven sister states in Northeast India, attempting to disintegrate the unity among them.
She further criticized the Mizoram CM’s stance against border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border and his alleged support for illegal immigrants from Myanmar, which could inadvertently promote poppy plantation and narco-terrorism in the region.
