Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and DoNER G Kishan Reddy has said that National Sports University (NSU) in Imphal will play a key role in nurturing the sporting talents from all over the country, particularly the Northeast region.
G Kishan Reddy arrived at Imphal on Monday and attended the opening function of the North East Regional Sports Week organized as a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: North East Festival at the main stadium of the sports complex along with state chief minister N Biren Singh and other ministers and MLAs.
Addressing the function at the main stadium of the Khuman Lampak Sports complex, Reddy said once the NSU become fully functional, the country will open a new chapter in the sports world.
Asserting that the Northeast including Manipur has enough potential to produce world class sportsperson, Reddy said that the university will play a key role in nurturing the sporting talents of the youths of the country.
The university will realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of producing more world class sportspersons. Knowing the fact that the Northeast region has plenty of talented youth, the Centre was keeping a high hope in the region, he added.
He therefore urged parents of the regions to let their children play any sports, as sports and games bring discipline and boost confidence in children. Manipur and other Northeast states will one day make India shine in the world of sports, he added.
Talking to mediapersons, Kishan Reddy has said that the implementing agency was seeking 30 months to complete the construction of the permanent campus, however, the Centre would like to complete it at the earliest possible time.
The Union Minister then inspected the infrastructures and other facilities being provided in the temporary campus of the NSU at Khuman Lampak Sport Complex.
Earlier, upon his arrival in Imphal, the Union minister inaugurated Inter-state Truck Terminus (ISTT), Sekmai in Imphal West district through virtual mode from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex where he inspected the temporary campus of the NSU.
The ISTT is a project which was taken up jointly by the Manipur government and Northeastern Council (NEC) at a cost of Rs 12.287 crore.
