No Hard Feelings Movie Review: Jennifer Lawrence’s Hilarious Return to Big Screen

No Hard Feelings Movie review

Jennifer Lawrence stars in the hilarious new comedy movie No Hard Feelings.

Jennifer Lawrence, the Academy Award-winning actress, has returned to the big screen in a completely different role. This time, she stars in the comedy film “No Hard Feelings,” directed by Gene Stupnitsky, known for his work on “Good Boys” and “Bad Teacher.”

The film was produced by Sony/Columbia and hits cinemas on June 23. The trailer has already garnered positive feedback, indicating that the wait will be worth it.

Plot

In the movie, Lawrence plays Maddie, a thirty-something-year-old woman from Montauk, Long Island. She faces severe financial problems after her tow truck driver ex-boyfriend, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, takes her car for not paying her loan. She has no means to earn money and will lose her home if she can’t work.

Jennifer Lawrence returns to Big Screen with “No Hard Feelings”.

In desperation, she answers a Craigslist ad posted by wealthy helicopter parents, played by Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti. They want her to “date” their socially awkward, virginal 19-year-old son Percy, played by Andrew Barth Feldman, before he leaves for Princeton in the fall. In exchange, they offer her a Buick Regal. Over the summer, Maddie and Percy learn from each other and figure out what they want from life.

Cast and Crew

The film was directed by Gene Stupnitsky, who co-wrote the screenplay with John Phillips. Stupnitsky also co-created the comedy series “Jury Duty.” The cast includes Natalie Morales and Scott MacArthur.

First Comedy Film for Lawrence

Lawrence became a movie star in 2010, but “No Hard Feelings” is arguably her first pure comedy movie. This fact highlights the state of theatrical comedy in the past decade. As a producer on the film, Lawrence told the New York Times, “I just want to laugh for two hours and forget about the fact that America is slipping into autocracy.” Will the audience agree? We’ll find out when the film hits theaters on June 23.

Trailer Reaction

In an age where comedy films are hit or miss, the “No Hard Feelings” trailer genuinely had us cracking up.
