The Kakching Khunnai Chaokhathanba Lup (KKCL) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren and Kakching DC to evict the encroachers from Kakching Lamkhai in view of the unavailability of government land in Kakching district and other parts part of the State for taking up development works.
In a press release, President of the organisation Jitesh Moirangthem said that State land area bearing C.S.Dag no 244, village no. 59 located on the eastern side of Kakching Leingang Pat now occupied by AR, the western side of National Highways 102 (Imphal-Moreh), and southern side of Imphal-Sugnu road was a grazing ground and playground for children. However, the area has been encroached on by the construction of many houses.
KKCL warmly welcomed the initiative of the government to evict illegal encroachers from the State, saying the State land area is a suitable site for construction of transport offices and godown of the trade and commerce in view of the ongoing construction of Trans Asian Highway under Act East Policy. The place is favourable for construction of employment exchange offices, it added.
Meanwhile, encroaching the roadside from Kakching Lamkhai to Kakching Chumnang along the Indo-Burma-Sugnu road have been demolished on Friday, following a public eviction notice issued by Kakching Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam on June 6. The eviction which commenced on Friday did not demolish the houses constructed by encroaching roadside. However, shops, bricks, sands and pebbles piled up on the roadside, fences and signboards erected on roadsides were removed. Officials said that dwelling houses being constructed on roadsides will also be evicted soon after conducting a survey.
SDO Kakching Kherdananda Potsangbam, Assistant Survey and Settlement Officer, H. Ibohal Singh and Executive Engineer, Kakching Municipal Council Naorem Ramchandra Singh also took part in the eviction drive.
