This year, on March 25 and 26, which fall on a Saturday and a Sunday, respectively, prayer offerings will be made as part of the yearly ritual at the sacred site of Kongba Maru Laiphamlen.
During a news conference held today at Kongba Maru, Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL) general secretary Mutum Maniton gave the above information.
Maniton claimed that Kongba Maru Laiphamlen is one of the important sacred sites of the State and that it receives a lot of pilgrims who come to pray there regularly starting on the first Saturday following Sajibu Nongma Panba (the first day of Sajibu month in the Manipuri lunar calendar).
He continued, “On these days, a large number of devotees visit the place by ascending hills and making prayers at various religious sites situated on these hills.
He added that UKAL, along with numerous local Yumnam Khunou organizations, will take a variety of steps to guarantee that the rite was conducted without incident given the growing number of worshippers visiting the site.
He also urged everyone to work together to protect indigenous practices and beliefs. Also made a request to the State Government to offer the organizers the best assistance possible.
It is noteworthy to know that Kongba Maru is the origin of one of Manipur rivers, Kongba turel which flows in the Imphal East district.
