In a swift response to the memorandum submitted yesterday, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has written to Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, addressing a critical issue raised by Maheshwar Thounaojam, National Secretary of RPI Athawale.

In a letter dated August 11, 2025, Athawale forwards Maheshwar Thounaojam’s memorandum, highlighting the threat of private hospitals in Manipur suspending Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY) services from August 16, 2025, due to unpaid reimbursement dues. Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has urged MoS Prataprao Jadhav to instruct concerned officials to resolve the matter and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services under the scheme.

The RPI (A) National Secretary’s memorandum highlights the essential role of private hospitals in Manipur’s healthcare system, supporting the PMJAY scheme that provides Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care. However, he noted that delayed reimbursements and unpaid dues are forcing these hospitals to consider suspension. The Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI) Manipur Chapter has also warned that affiliated institutes will soon charge standard rates until the dues are cleared.

In the memorandum, Maheshwar highlighted Manipur’s economic distress, ranking it as the third poorest state with a 36.89% poverty rate and a per capita income well below the national average. The ongoing ethnic crisis has further strained the state’s economy, disrupting livelihoods and the informal sector, leading to prolonged instability. He warned that halting PMJAY benefits would leave hundreds of patients helpless, urging immediate government intervention.

With the August 16 deadline approaching, the public and healthcare providers look to the central government for a resolution.
