The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree for 2022 has completed its roughly 200-mile journey to Manhattan, where crews are preparing to lift and fix 82-foot-tall Norwegian spruce in its place.

The tree lighting ceremony is broadcast after live entertainment and the tree is turned on. An estimated 125 million people visit the attraction every year. The 50-foot-wide, 14-ton heavy tree was felled from Queensbury onto a flatbed truck where it was to be erected at Rockefeller Center.

The tree, believed to be between 85 and 90 years old, was donated by the Lebowitz family of Glen Falls. Once placed in the plaza, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be dressed in more than 50,000 LED lights and crowned with a Swarovski crystal star.

The three-dimensional Swarovski star, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind in 2018, weighs approximately 900 pounds and features 70 points capped with 3 million crystals. The diameter of the star is 9 feet 4 inches.

The holiday icon will light up on the night of November 30 in a live broadcast on NBC. (At the end of the season, this Rockefeller Center Christmas tree will be felled and milled into lumber which will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.)

After November 30, the tree lights will be turned on every day from 6:00 AM to 12:00. AM. On Christmas day, the tree will stay lit for 24 hours.
