State planning to host G-20 meetings in Manipur

Manipur CM N Biren tweeted saying as India assumes G-20 presidency from December 1, preparations are underway to host G-20 meetings in Manipur as well.

Chief Minister N Biren met the Union MEA Dr. S Jaishankar at Hafta Kangjeibung and tweeted, “Delighted to attend the inauguration of G-20 stall by Hon’ble Union Minister, Ministry of External Affairs, Shri @DrSJaishankar ji at Hafta Kangjeibung today. As India assumes G-20 presidency from December 1, preparations are underway to host G-20 meetings in Manipur as well.”

Later, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday said that the G-20 would address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. It has logistical connectivity that would change the future of the Northeast region of India, the minister said.

Jaishankar was speaking during an interaction program with students and faculty of Manipur University and other institutes and universities in Manipur on Saturday at the City Convention which was organized by the Manipur University.

The minister said, “Globalised existence has gone deeper that actually impacted our daily lives. What is happening in your daily life actually goes to the globalization world and what we are doing in our daily lives is actually a part of the globalized world that involves a strong force competitive culture.”

“Understanding the playing field in regards to relation, security, etc is much needed, and to overcome challenges we have to have that strength and capability, the minister added.

During COVID pandemic, other countries were worried about India, however, we made it COVID challenge, said the minister.

“The important thing is how we deal with challenges. But today, the economic challenges of the world have become very important, the minister said and gave an example of friendship with other advanced countries with India to progress our nation,” he said.

Stressing the basic challenges faced by the NE region, the minister said that there is always an opportunity to get connectivity in tourism, economy or trade. And with regards to a special address for structural constraints and problems faced by Manipur, the minister said that he will try to see somewhere within the government of India.

The program was attended by Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan; Minister of Education, Th Basanta Kumar; vice-chancellor of MU, N Lokendra; Manipur University, head DVSSD, Ch Ibohal Meitei; director of UHE, Rangitabali Waikhom.
