Tap water connection reaches 76.33% rural households in Manipur: Ministry report

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has released a report on tap water connection in rural areas of Manipur, stating that out of the total 4.52 lakh households in rural areas, 3.45 lakh households have been provided tap water as of March 29, 2023.

The report further added that 70.59% of the total households in rural areas of the state have access to tap water connections. In comparison, 76.33% of the households having tap water connections have been provided drinking water.

Progress in tap water connection in rural areas of Manipur

As per the report, 4,000 households were given tap water connections in the year 2019-20 and 1.96 lakh households in 2020-21. The year 2021-22 saw tap water supply being given to 70,000 households while 48,000 households were connected in the year 2022-23.

The total number of households in rural areas of Manipur to be given tap water connection and drinking water is 4.52 lakh.

Jal Jeevan Mission to provide potable water in rural households

The Jal Jeevan Mission, introduced in partnership with state governments by the Central government in the year 2019, aims to provide potable water through tap water supply to every rural household in the country.

The report states that in the last three and a half years, 8.36 crore households in rural areas of the country have been provided tap water supply as reported by states/UTs till March 29, 2023.

The report further added that around 11.59 crore (59%) households out of the total households in rural areas of the country, which is 19.43 crore as of March 29, 2023, are reported to have tap water supply in their homes.
