Imphal (SPN) | On Wednesday, 1020 people stranded in Ukhrul, Churachandpur district, and Moreh sub-divisional town were brought to Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel in Imphal.

242 of them were taken to Ideal Girls’ College, Akampat, 30 to Bishnupur, while 648 left with their families/relatives.

Around 100 people are currently staying at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel. Moreover, 60 non-Manipuri staff of BIPL engaged in repairing the Singhat road in Churachandpur district also reached Khuman Lampak and have been relocated to the BIPL office in Langthabal.

On the other hand, about 1500 people from different relief camps in Imphal were brought to Peace Ground, Tuibong, while a similar number of people from Churachandpur relief camps were given safe passage towards Imphal with security convoys.

The Churachandpur district administration is making efforts to restore normalcy in the district by coordinating with local CSOs and security forces. Philanthropic organizations running relief camps are also being supported by the administration.

Arrangements have been made to receive people who are stranded outside the district at Peace Ground, Tuibong.

No major incidents were reported during the last 24 hours and the curfew was relaxed for five hours on Wednesday from 6 am. More shops were opened during the relaxation hours and people came out in larger numbers to buy their daily needs.

The district administration has urged everyone to maintain peace and refrain from spreading and relying on rumors. They also emphasized ascertaining facts from the district administration instead of falling prey to misinformation.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, members of Solam Haopi Area Kuki Chief Association and Solam Haopi Area Youth Development Organisation handed over 90 people, including nine women, who were stranded at D Khongkhai, T Seljang, and Singjao villages in Churachandpur district after communal clashes broke out on May 3.

They were handed over to the Peace Committee Sugnu AC Adjoining Area of Chandel, Churachandpur, and Bishnupur District Committee president and Sugnu MLA K Ranjit at Laloiphai village, Churachandpur district.

The stranded persons include 21 from Thoubal, 10 from Imphal, 19 from Waikhong, eight from Kumbi, six each from Wangoo and Chairel Mangji, three from Pombilchok, 11 from Khoijumantabi, and one each from Khullakpat, Tangjeng, and Churachandpur.

They were handed over in the presence of Makhao Area Chief Association chairman & Laloiphai village chief KS Baite, Solam Haopi Area Kuki Chief Association chairman Nganjathang, Sugnu SDPO Sugnu, Saikot police station OC, Peace Committee members, and CSOs, among others.
