Imphal, 05 July: In a significant step for locally grown publishing initiatives in Manipur, Yai Publications has entered the field of academic book publication with the launch of Fundamentals of Colostrum and Neonatal Care in Farm Animals, a scientific book co-authored by Dr. Shrilla Elangbam, Dr. Hari Om Pandey and Dr. Ayon Tarafdar.
The book was formally launched on Sunday at The Classico Bistro, Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Ayangpalli Road, Imphal East. The launch programme was attended by Naorem Mohen, journalist, India Today NE, as Chief Guest. Dr. Yumnam Lokeshor Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Dhanamanjuri University, introduced the book, while Dr. Naorem Thoinu, Founder of Yai Publications, presided over the function as President.
The publication marks an important milestone for Yai Publications, which has now expanded its work into academic and scientific publishing. The new book focuses on colostrum and neonatal care, two crucial areas in livestock production, animal health, farm management and veterinary education.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Naorem Mohen said the book is a timely and meaningful contribution to the field of veterinary science, livestock production and animal health. He said colostrum and neonatal care form the foundation of survival, growth, immunity and productivity in farm animals.
“For farmers, veterinarians, students and researchers, proper knowledge in this area is not only academic but also practical and life changing,” he said.
Congratulating the author, Mohen said Dr. Shrilla Elangbam’s academic journey reflects dedication, discipline and excellence.
Chief Guest also said the author’s Master’s research on the effect of cross-species colostrum feeding on growth and health performance in Vrindavani calves is closely connected with the theme of the book. He also highlighted her ongoing doctoral work on the integration of artificial intelligence in livestock management and welfare assessment, saying it reflects her commitment to combining traditional animal care knowledge with modern scientific innovation.
Dr.Shrilla Elangbam has published four research papers and three review articles. She has also contributed 16 book chapters and 10 popular articles, besides preparing extension leaflets for livestock farmers. She has presented her research at several national conferences and received awards for both poster and oral presentations.
Introducing the book, Dr. Yumnam Lokeshor Singh said the publication would be useful for veterinary students, researchers, field workers and livestock farmers, particularly in understanding the importance of early care in newborn farm animals. He said scientific knowledge on colostrum feeding and neonatal management can help improve survival, growth and productivity in livestock.
Dr. Lokeshor dedicated the work to mothers across all species for their nurturing instincts and to fathers who offer strength and support. He highlighted the “quiet force” that protects and carries life forward.
He further said the book serves as a comprehensive guide to one of the most critical phases in livestock production. Effective neonatal management, he noted, is not only a matter of animal health but also a major welfare concern and a key driver of farm profitability. Successful colostrum management is linked to improved growth rates, better reproductive efficiency and increased long-term productivity in farm animals.
Paikhomba Sairem of Yai Publications highlighted that Dr. Elangbam qualified ICAR-NET twice, in 2023 and 2025, and UGC-NET in Environmental Sciences for Ph.D. admission in 2024. She also secured All India Rank 3 in the ICAR-AICE JRF/SRF Ph.D. examination and All India Rank 28 in the ICAR-PG examination. She is a recipient of the prestigious ICAR-Junior/Senior Research Fellowship and was awarded the Governor’s Award in 2013 for her consistent outstanding performance in academics and co-curricular activities.
Presiding over the function, Dr. Naorem Thoinu appreciated the author for bringing out a subject-oriented book that has both academic and practical value. She said Yai Publications remains committed to encouraging young scholars, researchers and writers from Manipur and the Northeast to publish meaningful works in different fields.
She added that the launch of Fundamentals of Colostrum and Neonatal Care in Farm Animals reflects the possibility of building serious academic and scientific publishing from within Manipur itself.
The speakers expressed hope that the book would serve as a valuable guide for veterinary students, young researchers, field veterinarians, livestock farmers and all those working for better animal health and productivity.
They also wished Dr. Shrilla Elangbam continued success in her academic, research and professional journey.
