Last Updated on September 24, 2023 by SPN Editor

African Swine Fever (ASF) has been detected at Hiyanglam Makha Leikai, Kakching district, compelling Deputy Commissioner Kakching Salam Somorjit to issue an order on Saturday for restriction of selling pigs within one Kilometer from the Pig Breeding Farm, Hiyanglam.

Specialist of Pig Breeding Farm, Hiyanglam Dr. Heisnam conveyed that 14 piglets were imported from the United Kingdom in the year 2021 by the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, however, one piglet died on the way to Manipur. He said that it is unfortunate that the outbreak of African Swine Fever was confirmed when experts sent a confirmation message that those pigs that died were due to the disease.

In his order, the Deputy Commissioner of Kakching district declared that no pigs shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area and declared the area falling within 1 Km from the epicenter of the disease as ‘Infected Zone’ and areas falling within 9 Km radius from the epicenter of the disease as “Surveillance Zone” for taking up control and containment procedures.

Any person/institution/organisation found violating any of these containment measures shall be deemed to have committed an offense punishable under the Act, the DC warned.
