Hosts Manipur University Claim Men’s Title in All India Inter-University Thang-Ta Competition 2025-26

Hosts Manipur University (MU) lifted the men’s team champions trophy while Manipur University of Culture (MUC) claimed the women’s team title at the All India Inter-University Thang-Ta Competition 2025-26, which concluded here on Thursday.

The four-day event, hosted by Manipur University at its Dr. Kamal Indoor Stadium in Canchipur, was organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Around 250 athletes from 28 universities across the country participated in the Thang-Ta Competition featuring the traditional Manipuri martial art.

MU dominated the men’s section with a commanding haul of 9 gold, 4 silver, and 2 bronze medals. MUC finished as runners-up with 5 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

In the women’s category, MUC secured the top honours by amassing 8 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze medals.

National Sports University (NSU) settled for the runners-up position with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

On the final day, MU registered four gold medals (three in men’s and one in women’s events) and two silver medals in the women’s section. MUC added 2 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals on the concluding day.

The Manipur University men’s team was managed by Dr. Okram Parlin of Waikhom Mani Girls’ College and coached by Yumnam Khagemba.

The valedictory function and closing ceremony Thang-Ta Competition 2025-2026 was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Sumitra Phanjoubam, Dean of School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, MU; Professor Ch. Ibohal, Dean of Students’ Welfare, MU; Dr. Surjeet, Director of Physical Education, University of Kashmir and AIU Observer; and H. Premkumar, President of the Thang-Ta Federation of India. The dignitaries presented trophies to the winning teams.
