A six-day Capacity-Building Programme on “Ethnic Conflict, Land, Resources and Development in North East India” commenced at Manipur University on Monday, bringing together academics, researchers and experts from diverse disciplines for sustained deliberations on conflict, identity, land, demographic change, governance, peace-building and sustainable development in the Northeast, with particular reference to Manipur.
Dr. Pavan Kumar Yadavalli, Professor and Head, Department of Teacher Education, Manipur University, has received the “Research Era Excellent Paper Award” at the International Conference on Education and Social Science (ICESS–2026), held in Singapore on August 21.

Vice Chancellor (In-Charge) Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh said universities have a responsibility to produce objective academic research capable of helping society understand complex issues. He appreciated the Department of Anthropology for publishing a timely volume devoted to Manipur’s continuing unrest and expressed hope that the research would contribute to informed academic discussions beyond the state.
The health camp was jointly organised by the Manipur University Health Centre (MUHC), Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) and Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Langol, with the objective of promoting preventive healthcare and improving the overall well-being of the university community.
Dr. Thangjam Robert Singh of Manipur University participated as an expert in a biotechnology brainstorming session in Guwahati, highlighting the scope of multidisciplinary research for sustainable use of North-East India’s rich plant genetic resources.
The lecture on AI programme aimed to expose participants to global best practices in Artificial Intelligence, innovation and university-industry collaboration while encouraging a stronger culture of research, entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer within higher education.
The panel noted that the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation has been extending annual financial assistance to public libraries in North Eastern India under various development schemes on a 90:10 funding pattern. In Manipur, proposals are examined by the State Library Planning Committee, chaired by the Commissioner of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, before being recommended for assistance under different RRRLF schemes.
