The UGC-MMTTC programme brought together 53 faculty members and university officials for training covering leadership, administration, legal issues, financial management, communication and emerging technologies in higher education.
IMPHAL, September 29, 2026: A two-week Multidisciplinary Refresher Course on “Leadership, Academic Administration, and Legal Excellence in Higher Education” organised by the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Manipur University, concluded with a valedictory function at the MIMS Auditorium.
Held from September 16 to 28, the programme brought together faculty members and university officials from Manipur and outside the State.
A total of 53 participants, comprising teachers and administrative officers, attended the refresher course.
The programme covered leadership, academic administration, legal issues, communication, mental well-being, financial management, interpersonal relations and emerging technologies in higher education.
Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar, Manipur University; Prof. Laishram Rajendrakumar Singh, Finance Officer; Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh, Director, MMTTC; and Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Programme Coordinator and Director, Manipur Institute of Management Studies, attended the valedictory function as presidium members.
Training must translate into institutional change
Presenting a brief report of the course, Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei said the value of such training should ultimately be reflected in changes in participants’ outlook, professional interactions and approach to institutional responsibilities.
He stressed the importance of continuous self-improvement.
The programme combined academic sessions with role plays, group discussions, presentations and case studies, giving participants opportunities to engage with situations beyond conventional classroom lectures.
Registrar Prof. M. Premjit Singh said multidisciplinary refresher courses could expose academics and administrators to ideas beyond their specialised fields.
Such exposure, he said, could help refresh their thinking and strengthen professional capabilities.
Trust, accountability and teamwork
Finance Officer Prof. Laishram Rajendrakumar Singh highlighted trust and accountability, resourcefulness and teamwork as important attributes of effective leadership.
He encouraged the participants to take the knowledge acquired during the two weeks back to their respective institutions and translate it into action.
Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh said the MMTTC had attempted to address diverse dimensions of academic administration and legal issues within the duration of the programme.
Responding to feedback from participants, he said the Centre would explore specialised programmes covering areas such as examination, evaluation and question-setting.
Participants suggest specialised training
During the feedback session, participants appreciated the multidisciplinary and experiential nature of the refresher course, the range of resource persons and the opportunity to interact with academics and administrators from different institutions.
Participants also suggested incorporating field activities, specialised examination-related training and greater interaction with practitioners in future programmes.
Certificates were distributed to the 53 participants during the valedictory function.
The programme concluded with remarks and a vote of thanks by Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh.
The two-week programme placed leadership alongside academic and administrative competence, with its longer-term value expected to depend on how participants apply the lessons within the institutions to which they return.
