The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), a premier multidisciplinary research institute in Bengaluru, has opened online applications for its flagship Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP) 2026.
This competitive programme provides undergraduate and postgraduate students in science and engineering with a two-month hands-on research placement under leading scientists at the Centre.
Applications are accepted from December 22, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
Selected fellows receive a stipend of Rs. 10,000 per month, plus travel allowance (second-class sleeper train fare by the shortest route). A non-refundable application fee of Rs. 500 must be paid online.
Established in 1991, the SRFP is one of India’s most acclaimed summer initiatives for nurturing young talent. Over 2,672 students have participated to date, with many alumni pursuing distinguished research careers and holding faculty positions in top institutions worldwide.
Each year, approximately 2,000 applications are received, and around 100-150 fellowships are awarded on merit.
The programme immerses participants in cutting-edge research across diverse fields:
Life Sciences: Covering infectious diseases, bioinformatics, molecular biology, genetics, evolutionary biology, neurobiology, and more.
Chemical Sciences and Chemical Biology: Including solid-state chemistry, organic synthesis, nanomaterials, drug discovery, and biomaterials (mathematics required in Classes 10 and 12).
Physical Sciences: Condensed matter physics, biophysics, optics, quantum optics, and astrophysics.
Materials Sciences: Nanoscience, quantum and energy materials, computational modeling, and AI in materials.
Engineering Sciences: Computational fluid dynamics, microfluidics, turbulence, and biological mechanics.
Eligibility requires students to be enrolled in relevant UG/PG programmes (science, engineering, medicine, etc.), with at least 65% in Classes 10 and 12 core subjects and first-class marks in prior semesters.
Discipline-specific rules apply based on academic year. Located on a serene campus in Jakkur, JNCASR offers state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant research environment.
Fellows work closely with faculty on real projects, often leading to publications and lasting mentorship. Past participants highlight the programme’s role in sparking passion for science, providing invaluable exposure beyond classroom learning.
Applicants must submit online via www.jncasr.ac.in, including a referee recommendation.
Selection emphasizes academic merit and research potential. This opportunity is ideal for motivated students seeking to jumpstart a research career.
