Manipur unit of BJYM attacks MPCC office

Members of the Manipur unit of BJYM attacked the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee office on Thursday. The State BJYM leader, Manoharmayum Barish Sharma led the youths. The BJYM youths trespass the Congress Bhawan and kicked the party’s gate as well.

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) strongly condemned the attack by members of BJYM Manipur at the State Congress office gate located at BT Road in Imphal on Thursday at around 10 am.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said the miscreants also burned the effigy of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in front of the Congress Bhawan gate. In this regard, the MPCC has lodged a complaint with the OC, City Police, Imphal west demanding it to take up an FIR against BJYM Manipur President and his team in connection with the hooliganism.

MPCC General Secretary Jiten Singh told media persons that at around 10 am a team of BJYM Manipur led by its president Manoharmayum Barish Sharma suddenly appeared in front of the Congress Bhavan gate and attacked it. They kicked the gate and hit it with sticks. They also burned effigy of AICC President Sonia Gandhi there. The BJYM team also shouted “Sonia Gandhi murdabad.” Some police personnel who were present at the site could not control the BJYM members from attacking the gate, Jiten said.

A few months ago the same BJYM team attacked the MPCC office. No action was taken against them by the authority, he said.

He said that MPCC has submitted a written complaint to the officer in-charge of City Police, Imphal West over today’s incident. PCC has requested the City Police to register an FIR u/s 326, 447, 448, 427, 436, 503 and 504 of IPC against Manoharmayum Barish Sharma,  president of Manipur unit of BJYM, Robarth Oinam, Suraj Waikhom , Tomthin Moirangcha, Bimol Moirangthem, Dexter Gurumayum and their associates, and immediately arrest them. If the concerned police station fails to file an FIR against the aforementioned miscreants, the MPCC will directly go to the law court to seek justice, Jiten added.
