Imphal, June 16:The Department of Political Science, Manipur University, organised a One-Day Electoral Sensitisation Programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Roll, Manipur-2026 at its Seminar Hall with the objective of promoting electoral awareness and encouraging public participation in the ongoing revision of electoral rolls.
The Electoral Sensitisation programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Diana Naorem, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, who highlighted the importance of electoral literacy and citizen engagement in democratic processes.
During the programme, resource persons discussed the significance of elections, the need for accurate electoral rolls, and the responsibility of citizens in ensuring inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral processes.
Dr. Kangujam Sanatomba Meitei delivered a presentation on strengthening democracy through inclusive participation and elaborated on the key features of the Special Intensive Revision. He stressed the importance of ensuring that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral roll and encouraged active public involvement in the revision process.
Shri Tongbram Tejkumar, President of the Manipur Innovation Society, explained the objectives, procedures, and significance of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. He observed that an accurate electoral roll forms the foundation of free and fair elections and urged eligible voters to verify and update their electoral details to avoid exclusion from the democratic process.
The programme also featured an interactive question-and-answer session on the Special Intensive Revision, providing participants an opportunity to seek clarification on issues related to voter registration, corrections, inclusion, and deletion of entries in the electoral roll.
Addresses were also delivered by Dr. Salam Shantikumar Singh and Prof. N. Bijen Meetei, who encouraged greater electoral awareness and emphasized the importance of informed citizen participation in strengthening democratic institutions.
The Electoral Sensitisation programme concluded with a speech by Prof. Khelena Gurumayum, who reiterated the central message of the event: “An Accurate Electoral Roll is the Foundation of Strong Democracy.
