Imphal, August 12, 2026: Manipur University participated in a Pipe Band performance organised by the 33 Assam Rifles at the Biodiversity Park, near Centenary Hall, Manipur University, on Wednesday, bringing together personnel of the Assam Rifles and the University community in a celebration of patriotism, national unity and respect for the country’s armed forces.
Ahead of the programme, the Manipur University community took out a Har Ghar Tiranga Yatra from the Administrative Block of the University. Carrying the Tricolour, university officers, faculty members, staff and NSS volunteers marched towards the Biodiversity Park, creating an atmosphere of national pride and enthusiasm on the campus.
The programme was attended by Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor (In-Charge), Manipur University; Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Registrar; Colonel Radha Krishna, Commandant, 33 Assam Rifles, Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh, Dean of Students’ Welfare; and Prof. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator, NSS Cell, Manipur University.
Among other Manipur University officers and faculty members present were Y. Santikumar Singh, Security Officer; Dr. Sakila Nongmeikapam, Public Relations Officer; Dr. Lamabam Pinky, Medical Officer; and Kshetrimayum Birla Singh, Head, Department of Zoology. NSS volunteers and other members of the University community also participated in the programme.
The 33 Assam Rifles Pipe Band presented a series of patriotic and military compositions, with each performance carrying a message of courage, sacrifice, unity and devotion to the motherland.
Among the compositions presented was “Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja,” a stirring patriotic march associated with the courage and determination of Indian soldiers. The performance reflected the spirit of moving forward with confidence and dedication in the service of the nation.
The band also presented “Jai Janmabhoomi,” conveying the message that the motherland is more than a geographical territory and represents an emotional bond connecting people through their history, culture and shared identity.
Another presentation, “Vijay Bharat,” was dedicated to the valour and sacrifices of India’s armed forces. The programme highlighted that the peace and security enjoyed by citizens are closely linked to the commitment and vigilance of soldiers who continue to serve the country under difficult circumstances.
The patriotic atmosphere continued with “Ae Watan Ae Watan,” followed by military and slow-march compositions performed by the Pipe Band. The performances showcased the discipline, coordination and musical tradition associated with the armed forces.
The programme also featured “Desho Ka Sartaj Bharat,” celebrating India and its rich cultural diversity, followed by an impressive Drum Roll presentation.
One of the highlights was the rendition of “Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara,” which reinforced the message of unity, harmony and the common bond shared by the people of India despite differences in language, region and culture.
Through the musical performances and accompanying messages, the programme emphasised that patriotism should not remain confined to slogans or ceremonial occasions. Love for the country should also find expression through one’s conduct, actions and thoughts, as well as through responsible participation in society and contribution towards nation-building.
The programme particularly sought to inspire young people to understand the values of discipline, courage, responsibility, unity and service, while remembering the sacrifices made by generations of men and women in uniform for the security and integrity of the nation.
The event concluded with Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem, with Assam Rifles personnel and members of the Manipur University community joining together in a shared expression of respect and national pride.
The Har Ghar Tiranga yatra and Pipe Band performance provided an opportunity for the Manipur University community to celebrate the spirit of the Tricolour and reaffirm the values of national integration, unity and responsible citizenship.
