Imphal/November 03, 2023 (SPN)| During his address at the inaugural function, Prof. Hyungkyung Lee from the Department of Foreign Language (Korea) at MU announced the commencement of a five-year integrated MA program for Korean Language at Manipur University starting from the upcoming academic session.
The 4th Korean Studies Workshop for educators from North East India is currently underway, organized by Manipur University’s Department of Foreign Language (Korean). The workshop, spanning two days, kicked off at the court hall of Manipur University.
The inaugural event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University; Prof. Hyunkyung Lee from the Department of Foreign Language (Korea) at MU; Minister Sang Woo Lim, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India; Hyun-Soo Choi, Director of the Korea Foundation’s Jakarta office; and Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, Director of University and Higher Education in Manipur, who all graced the occasion as dais members.
The workshop’s primary objective is to facilitate an understanding of the historical, cultural, economic, and social aspects of the relationship between India and Korea.
It is particularly beneficial for high school and higher secondary school history and social studies teachers, expanding their knowledge base on Korea’s history, economy, society, and culture, as observed by Prof. Lee.
The MA Program for Korean Language has a specific goal: to nurture professionals capable of effectively using the Korean language in their respective fields. Through five years of rigorous and comprehensive Korean language training, students enrolled in this program are being prepared to become part of the forthcoming cohort of global professionals specializing in Korea.
These individuals will possess an advanced level of proficiency in the Korean language, facilitating their expertise in various professional domains. Furthermore, the MA Program for Korean Language actively promotes student engagement in exchange programs, offering intensive language training and valuable internship experiences within immersive environments.
