Imphal/ October 16, 2023 (SPN) | Haying Khongban Uphong Yumpham witnessed a grand celebration as the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board commemorated the much-anticipated “Mera Chaoren Houba” festival on October 15, 2023.
In a vibrant display of devotion and tradition, the festival kicked off with priests and priestesses embarking on a sacred journey to collect water from the Nungjreng Pukhri in Kangla. A spirited procession followed, leading the way to the revered Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple.
Vidyapati Senjam, Vice President of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board, addressed the media during the event, shedding light on the festival’s significance. Mera Chaoren Houba is a profoundly meaningful religious observance dedicated to honoring Lainingthou Sanamahi, celebrated with great enthusiasm on the first day of the month of Mera according to the Meitei calendar.
Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, Vidyapati Senjam extended warm greetings to the public on this joyous occasion. He expressed his hope that the festival would imbue the brave heroes safeguarding the State’s integrity with renewed courage and strength.
As the day unfolded, the premises of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board witnessed the solemn swearing-in of members of Huyen Mamom, further cementing the spiritual and communal bonds that make this festival a cherished and unifying tradition.
