Minister Nemcha Kipgen Warns of Slander Suit Against Ch Bijoy

Imphal/August 07, 2023 (SPN) | Minister of Textile, Commerce, Industry, and Cooperation for Manipur, Nemcha Kipgen has issued a stern warning to take legal action against Chongtham Bijoy, a former chief spokesperson of the BJP.

The warning comes after Bijoy allegedly made false and damaging statements about Kipgen during a local television news discussion.

On August 4, Chongtham Bijoy, a socio-political commentator, leveled a serious accusation against Minister Nemcha Kipgen.

Ch Bijoy claimed that she had a meeting with Th Muivah in Hebron, Nagaland, where the NSCN-IM leader supposedly urged her to designate Kangpokpi district as Naga territory in exchange for support from NSCN-IM.

Strongly refuting these allegations, Minister Kipgen labeled Chongtham Bijoy as an illogical individual with vested interests who frequently makes baseless claims.

Kipgen further pointed out that Bijoy had previously made unfounded accusations against former BJP Manipur president Th Chaoba and current BJP Manipur President A Sarda Devi. This resulted in Singh’s expulsion from the party due to violations of Article XXV, specifically the Breach of Discipline clauses (b) and (d).

Minister Nemcha Kipgen clarified that the allegations made by Chongtham Bijoy against her were without basis and completely false.

“The state is currently facing a crisis, and spreading groundless statements without credible evidence or sources could lead to unwanted consequences,” the Minister emphasized.

Kipgen also expressed concern that such statements could further divide communities and create hostilities among diverse groups within the state.

The Minister firmly urged Chongtham Bijoy to publicly retract his unsubstantiated claims and issue a public apology within 48 hours. Failure to do so, Nemcha Kipgen warned, would result in a slander lawsuit being filed against him, followed by legal action.

Besides, Minister Nemcha Kipgen appealed to the media community to exercise extreme caution and ensure the accuracy and credibility of information before disseminating it to the public.

This call for responsible reporting aims to maintain harmony and prevent unnecessary conflicts within the State.
